The conference continued the significant role that this international gathering plays in the ever broadening field of metallurgy and materials. Our goal is a home to nucleate and grow relationships, crystallize innovative ideas, and forge fresh perspectives.

The program included Lead-Zinc 2010, the fifth decennial international symposium in this series. This premier meeting brought a truly global perspective on the economic, technical and environmental issues in this industry. The 5th International Symposium on Advances in Refractories ISAR 2010, held in honour of Michel Rigaud, was another key component of the conference. In addition, seven other specialty symposia covered many areas of materials, minerals, and management. As well, there were a broad selection of short courses, industrial tourrs and our trade show rounded great network opportunities. Many took advantage of the many opportunities the conference presented to learn, teach and interact with fellow professionals.

A special thanks to students who joined us for COM 2010, and presented papers, participated in the poster session, or helped with technical sessions.

I would like to thank all of those that were involved in the organization of the conference and who have dedicated many hours to its success. In particular, I thank the authors of the many papers and presentations for their efforts in producing a fine technical program. My special thanks to the members of the organizing committee who have worked very hard to bring all aspects of planning a conference together. I also recognize and thank the financial sponsors, co-organizers, and co-sponsoring societies of the technical and conference program. The success of COM 2010 was a true measure of the strength of MetSoc and our ability to link with a global network of members and partners.
