On behalf of the Organizing Committee and the Board of Directors of the Metallurgical Society of The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum I would like to thank all our delegates, authors, sponsors and volunteers for participating in the 47th Annual Conference of Metallurgists in Winnipeg.
The Technical Committee, with the guidance of its Chair, Dr Bill Caley, offered over 300 technical presentations in nine symposia with a focus on the Conference’s theme of “Sustainable Practices in Metallurgy and Materials: Embracing the Future”.
Internationally recognized leaders and researchers from industry, research institutes and academia addressed the main concerns and issues affecting the future of the metallurgical and materials industry. With over 350 participants, MetSoc was pleased to host delegates from around the world!
The success and outcome of the COM2008 was the work of our Organizing committee, Technical committee, Professional Societies (AUSimm, TMS, NACE, IOM3,STLE) who persevered in bringing forth symposia of the highest quality to the delegates.
Our thanks also go to our corporate sponsors for their contributions and support to COM2008 and to MetSoc: HudBay Minerals Inc, Xstrata Zinc, Honeywell, Teckcominco, Air Liquide, Hatch, Systems for Research, SGS Minerals and SNC Lavalin. Sponsors helped us host social events such as the Welcome Reception, the Student-Industry Mixer and hosted post Industrial Tours.
I hope you all had the opportunity to enjoy the hospitality of “Friendly Manitoba” and that your time in Winnipeg was enjoyable and rewarding.
MetSoc is planning its 2010 Conference of Metallurgists in Vancouver held in conjunctions with Zinc & Leac 2010. The Society will of course offer short courses and interesting post-industrial tours. We hope to see you there!
